Gluten and Dairy Free Apple Crumble

It’s fall time again and that means apple picking and pumpkin carving! We have a local pick your own apple farm nearby where we go every year and stock up on several delicious varieties, my favorite being the Honeycrisp. Fall is not complete with out some delicious apple pie or some apple crumble. This year however, will be my first gluten free (GF) holiday season since being diagnosed with gluten intolerance. We already have altered recipes due to my husband’s lactose intolerance, but now we have to add no gluten in to the mix. Luckily there are quite a few GF substitutes which enabled me to make a delicious GF Apple Crumble.

This recipe was really easy and tastes delicious!

A note on the rolled oats: While oats themselves do not contain gluten they are frequently cut and processed using the same equipment that processes grains that do contain gluten.

I get oats that are specifically labeled Gluten free so that there’s no cross contamination.

Ingredients:

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored and sliced (I used honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup gluten free flour (I used King Arthur GF Baking Mix)
  • 1/2 cup GF rolled oats (I used GF Quaker Oats)
  • 1/3 cup margarine, softened
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375° F. Put sliced apples in 8 or 9 inch square baking dish. Combine the rest of the ingredients in a separate bowl and mix. Spread the crumble mixture over the apples and bake uncovered for 35 minutes. Enjoy!

Slicing, coring, and peeling the apples.
